Special effects process

Within our storyboard and storyline, our protagonist 'Alex' punches a mirror, therefore i used my own resources, and worked on how i could create a realistic broken/irritated hand.

I firstly began collecting what i need, e.g. liquid latex, broken up tissue, brushes, red face paint, purple pen, black eye shadow and a natural tone of liquid foundation.

I applied the liquid latex, and then began to layer the ripped up tissue to the latex, i repeated this until I was happy with the effect it was giving.

After that I began to add little amounts of the red pace paint to the areas I believe needed it, i did this so the skin looked as though it was irritated. After that I began to smudge red around the whole hand, and added the purple and black to give the illusion that the hand had been cut deeply.

Next I added a layer of foundation so the tissue and latex could blend in to the actual skin, I also added a little more red face paint where i thought it needed to be added.

The final step was adding the fake blood to areas on the purple and black parts of the hand to show a deep wound effect on the hand. More red face paint was added, just to show the difference on camera from the actual skin, and that of the irritated wound.

Realistically, the special effect make up isn’t very good, but as this is going to be shown on camera, i have to over exaggerate every detail for it to even show up in the frame.
