Institutional logo research (Independant)

Next we researched into independent film company logos as a comparison,  our first one was Big Talk Productions.

Compared to the bigger mainstream company logos Big talk productions shows that independent companies need a much simpler logo design due to their low budget. The text, for example, uses a very basic font unlike the more appealing one used in most mainstream company logos. This will have been because it was less costly than creating a new font from scratch like the bigger companies. However it still works well because it uses its bright white coloured text to contrast with the purple background and make it more visible and eye-catching to its audience. The background contains very little graphics, only the light stripes which extend outwards from the bottom right corner to give the text a sense of importance. The colour purple will have most likely been chosen for two reasons, firstly it is a cold and dark colour so it contrasts well with the white text , and secondly it gives some connotations of royalty and luxury to give the logo an overall sense of importance.

Twisted Pictures was our second choice of independent film company logo

Twisted Pictures' first most noticeable feature is the use of barb wires covering the text of the logo. Barb wire (along with the pitch black background) connotes the idea of horror, so its use reflects the company's specific use of the horror film genre as it has created many well known gruesome horrors such as the Saw series of films and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Also the way the barb has been set out differs from the way graphics have been set out in the other logos in that it is in the foreground instead of background. This has intentionally been done to draw the audience's eye towards the text because they first see the barb wire and want to read what is behind it.
