Creating a broken mirror

For our film we needed to make a broken mirror to use for when the protagonist punches it and it had to atleast look realistic on camera so it wouldnt affect the realism of the film.
I considered various methods of creating this effect includingactually breaking a second hand mirror, sticking glass/CD parts to the mirror. We settled with the idea of stretching cling film over the mirror in use and drew cracks and gaps over it using a board pen.

 

 

 

In this image tin foil has been used for the shards of glass to get an idea of what it will look like, however we will use broken up CD's to make these for the film. We wont use glass for safety purposes and ease of access.
